Activities of NIMD

WHO Collaborating Centre

Having been designated as the "WHO Collaborating Centre for Studies on the Health Effects of Mercury Compounds" (Ref.No.JPN-49) in 1986, we are active in surveys and research in mainly the following areas that relate to the health effects of mercury:

1
Surveys in geographical areas potentially polluted with mercury
Analysis of mercury in environmental samples and biological samples, and assessment of human exposures to mercury
2
Proactive supply of information via publications on the dangers of mercury and risks posed by mercury
3
Training about mercury analysis and exposure assessment for researchers and technicians in countries faced with mercury-caused environmental issues
4
Assessment of human and environmental exposures to mercury in locations suspected to have public health issues related to mercury, and preventative and therapeutic steps and responses
