NIMD sponsored a special session and contributed an exhibition booth in the ICMGP. In the booth we introduced our Institute’s activities, exhibited posters on Minamata disease, and provided a hair mercury analysis service. The booth was very popular and many participants visited to find out their hair mercury level. Some people visited the booth to compare their hair mercury levels with their levels at the ICMGP in 2011.

Six researchers (Canada 3, USA 1, Japan 2) were invited for the special session on “Mercury in marine mammals and human health risk”. They each gave a 15-minute presentation, including questions and answers. Although the session was held on the last day of the conference, approximately 50 people attended the session and engaged in active discussion. The session was favorably assessed by participants.

In the opening and closing ceremonies, the chairman of the ICMGP expressed special thanks for our contribution as one of the highest among the sponsors.

The special session was described in an article in the Kumamoto newspaper Nichinichi.
