From FY 2009 to FY2012, the National Institute for Minamata Disease served as the entity to lead a broad public call made to have mercury research done, as a means to supplying and collecting information on mercury research and to creating a network for mercury research, in pursuit of promoting mercury research in Japan as well as contributing to solving mercury-related issues on global levels through collaboration with other research institutions in Japan.
